I Have a Dream

"...And when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

After reading excerpts from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s speech "I Have a Dream," I asked my students what their dream is?

"Dream big," I encouraged them. "Dream beyond yourself. Don't limit your dream to your tastes, your wants. Let your dream apply to the world."

This is what they came up with.

~ No more cruelness ~
~ The world would be free of abortion ~
~ People will stop killing each other ~
~That all gun shots and killing will stop in all the world ~
~ Everybody will have their needs met ~
~ Stop cutting down trees ~
~ That plants don't get extinct ~
~ The world will be less polluted and be like time in the 1800's ~
~ That in the future terrorists will leave the world ~
~ No more thorns ~
~ No war again ~

Good job class!

My Manly Man

Today is Andy's birthday. I usually let the birthday person choose their own menu for their birthday dinner, but this year was slightly different. Andy wanted to try out his Christmas present and cook his own birthday dinner....meat! Not just any meat, but BIG meat.

Our children had pooled their money together this year, and ordered a spit from Sportsman Guide Catalog, after one of them overheard him "wish" for it out loud.

Hey, what more could a guy want for his birthday than to:

1)  Play with fire
2)  Cook BIG meat
3)  Pass a good time with a great buddy
4)  Smoke up the neighborhood and draw a crowd
5)  Use his children's Christmas gift
6)  Conquer the challenge of putting meat on the table

By the way, did I mention that the brisket was delicious?

Thank you, Honey, and have a wonderful birthday! I love you!

Great Shot!

Ania did it again. She wowed the crowd with an awesome three point shot in basketball, just a short half an hour ago. The team went on to feel the pains of defeat, but in my eyes, Ania was the star.

Makes me think of a time last season....

My First Born Son

Today we wish a very happy birthday to our first-born son, Kevin. I can still remember how profoundly awesome it felt to give him his name and to announce it for the first time. Kevin made us parents, and it has been a pure joy to watch him turn from that little bundle in a baby blanket, to the fine young man that he is today. Kevin, I am proud to be your mother, and I love you dearly!

K is for KENYA, a time you'll never forget,

E is for EAGLE, all your requirements met!

V is for the VARIETY of food that you'll try,

I is for INVENTIVE, your're an IMAGINATIVE guy.

N is for NOBLE, you know Who's you are,
Happy Seventeenth, Kevin, today you're the star!!!

Jesus bless you today and always!
Love,
Mama
