Fr. Ted Fits Right In

The Kenya Diaries (vol. 19)

July 6, 2006

Lucia's Turn

This morning we were all washing the clothes when Fr. Ted came over and offered to help. He couldn't believe how big our dirty clothes pile was. Then he taught us all how to be better clothes-ringer-outers. Now the clothes won't take so long to dry.

After all the clothes were clean we painted the giraffe pinata. We painted all the brown spots first, and had to let it dry before we could paint it yellow around the spots. I got to paint the head and legs with Philip. It was fun. Mama said we will fill it with candy tomorrow.

Ania said this: While we were painting the pinata we ran out of yellow paint. So we used red and orange instead to fill in around the brown spots. The giraffe looks like it is bleeding. Tomorrow we will finish the face, hooves, mane and tail, AND we will celebrate my birthday with the boys and Fr. Ted. Today is Aunt Kathleen's birthday (my godmother), and on August 7th we will be in Nairobi to celebrate Fr. Ted's birthday with him. Birthdays are fun!

Mama made some more chocolate cookies and Fr. Ted LOVED them best. He had two while Mama was making them. When he came back for supper, I think he had two more.  Kevin says Fr. Ted just loves those cookies!

I husked all the corn for Mama for supper. The boys kept asking, "What are you doing?" Mama said that they probably leave the husks on to cook corn in Kenya.  The corn ended up being too chewy, but I liked it anyway.

Philip said this: Fr. Ted brought rosaries for all the boys at the school, and he asked us to help hand them out. The boys all came outside and it took a long time to make sure everybody had a rosary. Then we took a picture with everybody in it.

Fr. Ted brought another priest, Fr. Michael with him for supper. We had a fun time. Thank you, Jesus, for a fun day today. Amina.
