Hurray For Cheese

The Kenya Diaries (vol. 6)

June 17, 2006

Kevin's Turn

Today we went to Nakuru City in a matatu (a 15 passenger taxi van). It was a crowded, bumpy ride. It costs 70 shillings per passenger to ride a matatu from Rongai to Nakuru -- then 70 shillings to ride back again.

We went to a lot of different stores and saw lots of different things. People stopped us on the sidewalks and tried to sell things to us. I got a necklace that looks like an elephant tusk and Mama got 10 postcards without even going in a store.

We went to a European restaurant and I had a cheeseburger, lots of french fries and a Sprite. It was wonderful to taste meat again! Then we went to a supermarket so Mama could go grocery shopping. The grocery store had a lot of good food like we have in America. Mama bought cheese and chocolate peanut butter!

When we got back to the school I played lots of games of pool with the boys.

For supper Mama made grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. We couldn't have any leftovers because we don't have a refrigerator. Supper was great! Hurray for cheese!

Thank you, Jesus, for giving us cheese, and for a fun day! Amina.
